Northern soul documentary

Found this wonderful documentary about Northern Soul and the Wigan casino in northern England in the late 1960´s. DJ:s re-discovered forgotten beautiful soul melodies from lesser known american artists and started palying them at different clubs. Wigan casino was one of the most famous ones.

Enjoy!

Love will tear us apart?

The day after Valentines day maybe love will tear us apart? Anyhow, watch this Joy Division documentary while thinking about that.

Edwyn Collins is home again

Found this wonderful documentary on Youtube. It is about legendary Edwyn Collins who began his career with 80s band Orange Juice (my favourite)and has since then had a solo career with for example the hugh hit "A girl like you" in the mid 90´s. In 2005 he suffered a stroke and has since then fought to recover with learning how to walk, learning the words to his songs again and also trying to fight his way back to the stage. In 2007 he finally was back on stage and this documentary follows his road back to a "usual" life again. This is part one, but there are four parts in total available on Youtube. Really glad you are back Edwyn!

Am I black enough for you?

In my mind this is one of the absolute best music documentaries in recent years. Swedish filmer Göran Olsson describes the life of legendary soul singer Billy Paul. The documentary discusses everything from his contribution to the movement of the rights for African-Americans in the U.S. to what the song "Am I black enough for you" meant for his career and what impact Philadelphia have had on music in history. The documentary includes interviews with Questlove from the Roots, Kenny Gamble and Billy Paul himself. If you haven´t discovered Billy Paul yet, I suggest you do it now.
